These narrow strips of plastic on the soil are called Plastic Mulch which is used for weed control, soil moisture retention and fruit/vegetable disease control. In the photo, the soil is being prepared for the planting of tomatoes.
Below you can see tomato plants growing. The wooden sticks act as the plant's support as it grows taller.
Tomatoes are growing and getting ready for harvest.
