These photos were taken last October 2008 at Yohan's school during their Jurassic Book Fair. I support school activities like this one because it draws students and families to appreciate the wonderful world of books.

Below is my son (wearing a hat) looking at the books on display. I don't mind buying him books because different kinds of literature foster his interest and love for reading.

Share something fun you did with the family recently.

Hubby and I watched Angels and Demons last Monday. We left Yohan at home because the movie wasn't suitable for kids. We promised to make it up to him by watching Night at the Museum 2 on our next visit to the mall.

Last Wednesday, hubby and I fulfilled that promise to Yohan. We had a fun family date at Alabang Town Center. We had some pizza, mojos and chicken for lunch. Yohan ordered a tall glass of Oreo milkshake.

Yohan got a free volleyball from Shakey's as part of their meal promo.

We watched Night at The Museum 2 after lunch. We all enjoyed the film. It was really funny. It's a perfect movie for kids and grown-ups.

I asked Jules and Yohan what do they like better, Night at the Museum 1 or 2. The boys said they like the sequel more than the first one. For me, the first one is still my favorite.

After the movie, we did a little shopping for Yohan. He has grown taller so we decided to buy him a new pair of jeans, 3 colored pants and a blue windbreaker. Here's a photo of our junior shopper. :)

Tips In Creating a Minimalist Home

I admire minimalist homes. They look so clean, organized and cozy. I think that minimalist homes are pleasing to the eyesight. They are clutter free which often makes them easy to clean and maintain. Such an environment fosters a feeling of calmness.

Here are some simple tips on how to create your own minimalist home:

1. Paint the walls with a neutral and soothing shade.

2. Choose few pieces of furniture that are essential to your needs. Take into consideration both comfort and functionality in choosing the pieces for your home. Try to go for simple furniture with solid colors.

3. Use only a few decorations. You can choose bright colors to give a nice accent to the subdued surroundings of your home. A splash of color will bring life to your home.

4. Pick out natural Rugs and runners. There are different kinds of natural materials to choose from like bamboo, coir, jute, paper, seagrass, sisal, sisool and wool.

5. Modern minimalist homes make use of accent spotlights and lovely art lamps.

6. Free your home from unnecessary clutter. Store away seasonal items. Throw away things that you do not need. Donate items that can still be used by other people.

Last weekend my family and I went to the mall to shop for Yohan's school stuff. We were able to buy all the required school supplies plus new shoes, school bag, lunch box and other school essentials. Yohan is an incoming Prep student this June. The first day of classes is June 8, 2009.

After shopping, Yohan requested to have some snacks inside the store. I wish all stores had mini snack bars inside :). We had some popcorn and cupcakes for snack.

Consequence of Asbestos Exposure

It is alarming that some jobs out there are highly dangerous to one’s health. Jobs that require constant exposure to harmful and toxic materials particularly asbestos pose great health risks. Sadly, some people blindly commit themselves to dangerous jobs because of the promise of better salary. Personally, I think that there is no amount of salary that can justify the deterioration of one's health. Some companies take advantage of workers by promising them good compensation without specifically divulging the possible health risks that they would be facing at work.

Prolonged exposure to asbestos can actually cause cancer. As a matter of fact, asbestos exposure is said to lead to a form of lung cancer called Mesothelioma. This particular type of lung cancer is common in workers who are in the shipbuilding industry, construction, auto mechanics, contractors, and demolition. Workers who develop this kind of cancer should be aware of the benefits they could claim from the company they work for. Mesothelioma victimes are entitled to compensation. Hiring a good Mesothelioma Lawyer can help Mesothelioma victims claim compensation and benefits that are rightfully theirs from difficult companies. These lawyears are dedicated to help Mesothelioma victims in their plight towards achieving justice.

My First Blood Donation Experience

Last September 2008, I was supposed to donate blood for my SIL but I was rejected as a donor on the first step (Interview Data Sheet) because I just had my period. That made me ineligible to donate blood at that time. My hubby donated blood instead.

Sad to say, my SIL had another medical emergency the other day. She needed blood again. This time I passed the screening and I was able to donate blood for her.

I was a little scared at first because I witnessed hubby's blood donation last year. The one who extracted his blood had a hard time finding the right vein. It was an unpleasant experience for him. I expected it to hurt but surprisingly my blood extraction was a breeze. The guy who took my blood was a 'sharp shooter". :)

When I saw hubby's old photos, I realized we used the same stress ball. What a coincidence. Every donor needs to press the stress ball repeatedly to help hasten the supply of blood.

My SIL is now doing better and has been discharged from the hospital.

If you're interested, I shared the step by step Blood Donation Procedure in an older post.

On our way home from the hospital, we stopped by Red Ribbon. Hubby bought me a Mango Cashew Roll ... a little prize for being brave. Ha ha! I like this "light angel food cake with fresh mango balls and cashew nuts".

Face and body painting are popular during kiddie parties. Kids love it as well as adults. :) Below are photos taken at Yvaine's (hubby's niece) 1st birthday party a few weeks ago. We were early at the party so my son was the first in line. Yohan had his hand painted with a cool Lightning McQueen image.

Guess who was the next in line? Yohan's groovy grandma (my MIL). She had a cute pink butterfly to match her pink blouse. :)

Next was my MIL's twin sister. she had a green butterfly painted to match her shirt.

What kind of jewelry or accessories do you wear frequently?

These are my favorite pieces (a watch, white gold earrings and white gold necklace with a cross pendant). I frequently wear them on casual days . I like interchanging the band straps of my watch. I'm sad that two Swarovski crystals are now missing from the cross. :(

Weekend Snapshot #73 (Mother's Day)

To join this weekly meme, click here.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day celebration. I was a little sad because I miss my mom very much. I remember how special last year's Mother's Day was because my parents were here. If only I could always celebrate this special day with my parents.

Let me share a part of the card I sent my mom for Mother's Day. I'm so blessed to have a kind, loving, thoughtful and generous mother. I love you Mom!

This is Yohan's Mother's Day card. I made copies of it to give to some relatives.

Hubby has culinary class every Sunday but he came home with a sweet surprise for me. He bought me roses and a tub of ice-cream that I have been craving for several days. Yohan loves wearing this shirt every Mother's Day. He has been wearing it for three years now. I guess this shirt has to retire because it's already small for Yohan. :) This shirt will always bring happy memories.

I've been craving for Selecta's Gold Series Chocolate Truffles for several days now. I was disappointed when I couldn't find it at the nearby store. I think it's sweet that hubby went searching for this particular ice-cream on Mother's Day and I'm glad he found it. Yummy!

Web Hosting Options

Webhosting is a great option for personal sites, group websites and company websites. There are different web hosting options that you might be interested in.

The first consideration that a lot of people think of is pricing. Not all web hosting are expensive. If you are looking for a lesser expensive package, you can consider shared hosting. This allows websites to share one server. Being on the same server means paying less each month. If you want shared hosting, make sure that you can trust the people you share the host with. Otherwise, problems they cause can have considerable effects on you as well.

Having your own server has more benefits. You don't have to worry about complications caused by others because you have one dedicated server. You definitely have more freedom because you have liberties such as extra bandwidth, visitor trackers, and your very own I.P. You can personalize everything based on your own needs and requirements. I personally like this option for my blog because I can exercise more freedom to customize my blog and not worry about complications from others.

Find out about the best web hosting providers in the market. Compare offers, features and web hosting rating and determine what web hosting provider best suits your needs. Read about articles and tutorials to learn more about web hosting benefits.

Photo Hunt :: In Memory

PSHunt
Come and join the hunt here

This post is dedicated in memory of my loving pets that I had when I was young. My first dog was named Spotty. She was a cross breed Japanese Spitz. My Lola H's dog had a litter of puppies and she asked my parents if they wanted to have one and they said yes. My brother and I were so excited when we found out. When the puppies were old enough to bring home, my family went to my Lola H's house to choose a puppy. My heart was set on a puppy with black markings. I found out that she fell somewhere high and miraculously survived. That story made me pick her for a pet. My Dad suggested that I might want one of the pure white puppies instead but one in particular already stole my heart. We brought home my choice of puppy and I named her Spotty. She was sweet and affectionate. Spotty had one quirky behavior as she grew up. Whenever someone went upstairs, she would always twirl around in a funny, crazy way near the steps. She never outgrew that weird behavior of hers. I remember coaching her to come up with me but she never learned how. It was so interesting how Spotty easily found her way down by herself whenever I carried her upstairs.

Spotty gave birth to several puppies and we decided to keep one. My brother and I named her Bunny because she looked like a little rabbit when she was young. Bunny didn't go crazy whenever someone went upstairs. She was more reserved compared to Spotty.

L-R: Spotty, Bunny and Cookie

When Spotty gave birth again, we decided to keep another one and named him Cookie. He was a hyperactive puppy. My parents became concerned when they noticed Cookie's temper. They decided to give Cookie to my uncle (my mom's brother). I was sad to see him go but I realized that my uncle could take better care of him.

Cookie

My brother's playmate (our neighbor) gave us a puppy named Bubbles. My parents were surprised when they went home one day to find a brown puppy at home. My parents found out that the puppy had worms. My parents tried to give it back to our neighbor, however they didn't want the puppy anymore. My Dad gave Bubbles medicine to get rid of the worms. My parents gently told us that we couldn't keep Bubbles but they promised to find a good home for him. They gave Bubbles to a nice man who sold us vegetables regularly.
