I chose Peace. Sometimes it's not easy watching the news because it's disheartening to see chaos and crime in different parts of the world. Peace is a great blessing that I wish on everyone.

Topic for this week:
Share a special memory

Today is the birthday of one of my best friends. His name is Lyonnel or Lye for short. I've known him for more or less twelve years. I met him in college when we became classmates in a summer class. It was the start of a beautiful friendship. I think of him as my silver lining because I met him during a low moment in my life. He brought back my smile.

I remember back in 1997, (we were already working at that time) I gave him a lovely birthday surprise. I had a special cake personalized specially for him. It was a replica of his car. You see, he was a car enthusiast ever since college. His first car was a customized fuschia Honda Hatchback with hydraulics. It was featured in many car shows.

I tied the box with a sheer purple ribbon and I wrote birthday wishes on it.

I ordered one large purple balloon and had a special birthday message printed on it.

I gave the cake shop a picture of his car and I asked them to copy all the details.
It even had his actual plate number.

I delivered the cake and balloon to his house while he was still at work. When he got home and saw the surprise, he immediately called to thank me. It felt wonderful to hear him tell me how happy I made him that day.

Lye and I are still best friends. We still see each other from time to time together with our respective families. I admit I miss those days when we use to spend more time together but I'm glad our friendship remains strong.

Happy Birthday Lye! I miss you.

I'm very excited because my mother is coming here for a vacation next week. My Mom and Dad will be staying with us for a month. I haven't seen them in a few years and I can't wait to kiss and hug them soon.

• I've never been good when it comes to directions that's why I think I make a terrible navigator.
• Most guys don't like asking directions but my hubby doesn't mind asking if it's needed.
  
• My 4 yr-old son loves make believe games. He has a great imagination. He likes doing "remakes" of cartoons, TV programs and movies that he watch. He likes directing scenes in our make believe games.

Heads - Tip
Tails - Anything that Rhymes with Tip

For this week's theme, I chose Heads - Tip. I would like to share some tips on the importance of recognizing the small things that our children do, especially the young ones. Giving a child a positive remark is a great way to foster good behavior. It's one form of positive reinforcement that you can do. Let your child know how much you appreciate his action/behavior through simple words like "good job", "wonderful work", "you did very well" and other encouraging remarks when he does good things like ...

• finishing the food on the plate
• brushing his/her teeth after a meal
• finishing his/her homework
• taking a nap in the afternoon
• sharing toys with others
• putting toys away after playing
• giving you a drawing he/she did
  
• bringing home a nice project from school
  
• getting a good grade in school
  
• and so on

Inspire your children to continue doing good things by letting them know that you appreciate what they do. Simple words can mean so much to a child.

Express

Sometimes it's nice to get things quickly. Below are some Express things that I appreciate...

• E-Pass - It's an electronic tag attached to the vehicle (normally near the windshield) that gives motorists faster entry to the toll gate.
  

• SM Prestige Card - We buy our groceries at SM and Prestige card holders have their own exclusive lane at SM supermarkets. SM Makati also has an exclusive lounge for cardholders where they can rest and relax in between shopping with free refreshments.

• Express Delivery - I like the option of express delivery. Sometimes, a little added fee is worth it as long as you receive the goods earlier than usual.

I'm a fool for sweet and calorie packed delights ... something I need to minimize. They say among the keys to a good life is balance and moderation. Note to myself: "Please moderate eating chocolates and calorie-rich desserts."

Surprise

I love receiving surprises. It always brightens my day to know that someone is thinking of me and cares enough to give me a delightful surprise.

I recently received a wonderful advance birthday surprise from my parents. They sent me a new digicam and handycam. Thanks Dad and Mom. I'll see you very soon.

Any Part of the House

Jen, over at Tidbits of the Tippets, is the guest host for Skittles’ Heads or Tales. Please go visit her.

I love spending time with my family in the "TV Room" ~ no, we don't have a big house, we just happen to call it that ever since. :)

The "TV Room" is obviously where we watch TV but we have also converted it to Yohan's play area. We've placed large multi-colored mats so Yohan can still play on the floor. It's a shoes-off-please area to maintain cleanliness. We had some wooden shelves and cabinets custom built.

Guess what are on the shelves and in the cabinets? ... Yohan's photo frames, books and toys. Yohan has accumulated a lot of toys over the years. Last year he was not ready to part with some of them but this year I was surprised when he agreed to give some toys that he is not using anymore. I told Yohan that some children only have a handful of toys and they would be delighted to receive toys from other children like him. I let him choose the toys that he was willing to give to other kids and I've placed them in a box. I'll give them away as soon as the box is full.

Heads - Anything Green

1. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of green is the school where I graduated in College ~ De La Salle University (DLSU). Green Archers is the varsity team of DLSU.

2. One of the things that I love in our area is the beautiful green surroundings. I never get tired of looking at the majestic Mt. Makiling.

LOVE

I witnessed my parents unconditional love for each other.
They have always been very sweet and caring towards one another.
I'm amazed how they have remained the same all these years.
They are still the same sweet couple I have grown up admiring.

I'm blessed to have such loving parents.
They have always given me love, support and understanding.
They always have my best interest at heart.
I know they will always be there for me in a heartbeat.

I'm thankful to my parents for rearing me in a loving environment.
I'm grateful for meeting my husband and having a wonderful son.

HEADS - Any word that starts with the letter C

1. Chocolate Cake - My hubby's first try in baking a chocolate cake. It was a small and simple three layered cake. Everyone in the house loved it.
   
   
2. Cones - Enjoying our favorite ice-cream on cones. Fruits In Cream (FIC) Mangoes 'n Cream and Mint Pistachio.
   
3. Crocs - Early last year our favorite footwear was Crocs. Sadly, fake Crocs and replicas are now available in the market.
   
   
4. Chapel - This is St. Marc's Chapel in Los Banos Laguna, Philippines. A lovely chapel without walls surrounded by a beautiful garden. It's perfect for meditation and contemplation. It is also famous for garden weddings.
   
   
5. Caramel Apples - A sweet discovery last year.
   
   
   
6. Crabs - My hubby and I are fond of eating crabs. This is our favorite Schezhuan Crab at The Red Crab.
