I posted this picture and poem last year when I was relatively new at blogging. I didn't have any blog friends at that time and the original post didn't have a single comment. So I thought it would be a nice idea to share this again. It seems perfect for this week's theme too because I consider this as a memorable and sweet moment with my son.
My heart leaps everytime I see a beautiful rainbow.
Wonderful colors splashed in a magical spectrum.
Legends say there is gold at the end of every rainbow.
It's true! I found mine ... and his name is Yohan.

This was what I had for dessert last night. It's a slice of ube cake. It's a very sweet and rich cake. Ube is a Filipino term for purple yam. It's not my favorite cake but I like having it occasionally.

Yohanism #11
At Jollibee Drive Thru:
(This happened today when we decided to buy Yohan his favorite chicken meal after his class.)
Drive Thru Attendant: Hi Sir. Welcome to Jollibee! What's your order?
Jules: 1 Chickenjoy Kids Meal, 2 plain Jolly Twirl and 1 Rocky Road Brownie.
Drive Thru Attendant: What's the drink for the Jolly Kids Meal?
Jules: Sprite.
Drive Thru Attendant: Is that all sir?
Jules: I forgot, please add extra gravy.
Then from the back of the car, our little boy said ...
Yohan: And extra toy please.
The friendly drive thru attendant was so amused but we understand that she couldn't give Yohan an extra toy.
Incidentally, Yohan just completed all 4 Transformers from Jollibee and he's very happy. Jules promised that we'll watch the Transformers movie early next week. He bought a DVD of Transformers cartoons. I watched it with Yohan and I couldn't help singing the theme. It brought back happy memories of me and brother watching the Transformers on TV when we were young.

The Cabbage Patch that Never Was
I asked my parents for one but during that time they were not available in the Philippines. My classmates who had Cabbage Patch Kids got their dolls from the States. I think they were a little pricey for a doll at that time. I had the chance to play with CPK whenever some of my classmates brought their dolls in school.
Now that I'm older, I still find myself admiring CPK displayed in stores. There was a time I was almost tempted to buy one for myself. :)
Even though I didn't get the doll I wished for, my parents gave my brother and I wonderful toys. My favorite was my barbie doll collection. My brother had a cool collection of G.I. Joe and He-Man action figures.
Was there a toy(s) that you wanted as a child but never got?
Happy Birthday to my Brother
You have been through a big change lately and I wish I was there to share your special day. I just want you to know that I love you and pray for your constant happiness.
Happy Birthday my dear brother.

Threefold Blessing
Grateful.
Overwhelmed.
Giddy.
Thankful.
Inspired.
Imagine receiving the Rockin' Girl Blogger award from three wonderful friends. I feel truly happy being the recipient of this great and thoughtful recognition.
Congratulations Connie, Anni and Julie for receiving the Rocking Girl Blogger award! You all deserve it. Thank you for letting me be a part of this blessing. From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank each of you for the sweet and heartwarming words...
Rachel-For sharing her days and letting me be a part of her life. She is such a good mother and I love to see her darling son grow with each picture. She is so full of goodness. - Connie of Serious Mumbo Jumbo
Heart of Rachel!! I've met Rachel through a weekly blogroll and became a regular visitor. There are so many soulful thoughts and heartfelt messages given to us with her blogging! Her blog makes me feel welcome and comfortable. - Anni of Hootin' Anni
Rachel from Heart of Rachel - She is a very kind person and I really enjoy her blog. She always leaves such kind comments and is very caring. - Julie of Jules Journal (Celebrating Life and Family)
In my thoughts, all my dear blogging friends deserve to be called Rockin' Girl Bloggers (except for the guys of course, haha!) but since tradition requires only five, I would like to share my blessings to the following (in no particular order) ...
1. Dine (a.k.a. Sexy Mom) of The D Spot - Her successful career demaded her to travel a lot but I admire how she has effectively balanced her roles at work and at home. She is a young retiree who continues to live a productive life through freelance writing and media consultations. Dine is a mother of seven brilliant children who are all probloggers. She is a great inspiration to many.
2. Chateau of iMoM - She is a dedicated work-at-home mom. I had the privilege of meeting her in person. The first thing about her that striked me was her lovely smile. Chats is sweet, friendly and fun-loving. It's interesting how we seem to have a penchant for similar food. No wonder, we got along pretty well on our first meeting.
3. Daphne of My Little Moments - Honest, straightforward, independent, adventurous and free-spirited. Those are only some of the positive traits that I admire about Daphne. She loves watching films and makes excellent reviews. Her experiences in living in different countries have molded her into a well-rounded and strong individual.
4. Pea of Pea's Corner - Pea finds pleasure in the simple things in life. She loves travelling and giving her readers a virtual tour of the lovely places she visit through her photos. I love her fairy garden. With all the fairy dust in the air, it's not a surprise to see all those beautiful flowers that bloom in her garden.
5. Annamanila of Ode2Old - Anna writes passionately about life around her. She has a wonderful gift of putting together the perfect string of words. She writes so effectively that I feel every bit of emotion behind the words. Simply put, her writing moves me.
Crossroads
I felt sadness in my heart when I heard your voice on the other line. I'm sorry that your heart is broken. I never dreamed that you and J will part ways. I thought it was just a phase. You've gone through similar situations in the past but you always reconciled your differences. I cannot believe that you have gone separate ways for good.
I know you are hurting when J said goodbye. I know that we cannot bring back yesterday and wish everything will return the way they were. Perhaps God has a better plan for you and J. I hope that in time, the pain will go away. For now, I pray that you can start fresh and look forward in life. I know it will not be easy after nine years of being together but he has moved on and you should do the same. I just hope that we can always remain good friends even though you and J have come to a fork in the road. J may be part of my family, but you will always be special to me. I shall cherish the wonderful times we've spent together. I hope that our friendship will not fade in time. Take care C and may you find the right man for you someday. God bless.

Friday Bliss with a Capital D
A news team is sent to South Africa to capture and bring home a legendary 25-foot crocodile. Their difficult task turns potentially deadly when a warlord targets them for death. The movie is weighed down with bad reviews but I think it's fairly okay but I guess you shouldn't listen to me because I'm biased. haha! Seeing Dominic on screen made the movie worth watching. *wink*

Talking about crocodiles, here's Yohan carrying a huge crocodile toy from the mall. He's fascinated with all kinds of animals and crocodiles are one of them.

Notes of Gratitude
Let me take this chance to share some random notes of gratitude ...
Thanks Jules for making me a clubhouse sandwich which I brought to school. It was nice of you to make an extra sandwich for my friend Siony. We enjoyed eating the delicious sandwiches while waiting for our kids' class to finish.
Thanks to a pretty little girl named Nikki for being Yohan's first friend in school. She is also our neighbor and joins us in the school service/shuttle. Although Nikki lives just two streets away from us, Yohan hasn't met her before. She's a very sweet young girl and made the first move to be Yohan's friend. Yohan is very attached to her and always cries whenever it's time to go home knowing he can't take Nikki with him. I always assure him that he'll see Nikki the following day. It would have been nice if they were classmates but Nikki is a year older so she's in Kinder while Yohan is in Nursery. They are always together before and after class.
Thanks Yaya for waking up daily at 4 a.m. (sometimes earlier) to make breakfast for us and fix Yohan's food for school.
Thanks Siony for keeping me company in school and telling me so many amuzing stories to pass the time.
Thanks to Teacher Ren and Malou for being wonderful teachers to Yohan. He is always eager to tell me about the activities you do in class.
Thanks to my BIL, Keats for the beautiful granite countertop for our TV area.
Thanks to Tita Rose for the beautiful mask from Venice. I also appreciate the new ink cartridges for my printer.
Thanks to Chona and Mom Norma for the cookies and chips you bought for Yohan to bring to school.
Thanks to my friend Gary for texting me inspirational thoughts everyday even though I rarely get the chance to text him back.
Thanks to all my dear blog friends for always sharing your wonderful thoughts with me. Your comments never fail to make me smile. Happy weekend everyone!

Down Goes the Marble
Yohan loves playing marbles but in a different way. He loves letting the marbles go down those colorful slides. He enjoys doing this over and over again. It's fun watching him so absorbed in his game.

What Your Soul Really Looks Like |
You are a warm hearted and open minded person. It's easy for you to forgive and forget. You are a very grounded, responsible, and realistic person. People may not want to hear the truth from you, but they're going to get it. You believe that people see you as a bit small and insignificant. People pay more attention to you than you think. Your near future is a lot like the present, and as far as you're concerned, that's a very good thing. For you, love is all about caring and comfort. You couldn't fall in love with someone you didn't trust. |

Happy Father's Day!
Happy Father's Day Dad! Thanks for being a wonderful father to me and Jun-Jun and a great grandfather to Yohan. Thanks for always been supportive, kind, understanding and generous. Your creativity has inspired me in many ways. Thanks for encouraging me to enhance my art skills in school and for being proud of my achievements.
Thanks for always sending us wonderful gifts. Your generous nature is one of your greatest traits. You give without expecting anything in return.
I love you Dad!

My mom saved all my IDs in school as a keepsake and I'm glad she gave them all to me. They remind me of those memorable years in school. Here are my IDs from Prep to Grade 7. As you can see, my hair style have changed over the years. I think it was in Grade 5 that I learned the meaning of bad hair day. ha!ha!

Small Acts of Kindness
No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted. - Aesop
Bubbly, outspoken, thoughtful and kind ... those are the traits of a fellow mom I met in school. Her name is Siony. She's a young SAHM. Her daughter Colenn is Yohan's classmate in nursery.
On Yohan's first day in school, I didn't talk to the other moms. I brought my Sudoku booklet and went to a far corner to solve some puzzles while waiting for my son's class to finish. I blocked out the voices of the chatting moms by putting on my earphones to listen to some mp3. I'm not really the type who makes friends easily but when I do, it is often for keeps.
The following day, I still had my Sudoku puzzle and planned to sit there quietly to wait for Yohan. Siony decided to sit beside me and she introduced herself. She's very friendly and in high spirits. I didn't realize we were talking that long until I saw Yohan getting out from the room. I must have enjoyed talking to her and didn't feel the time pass by. Before parting, Siony even initiated exchanging cellphone numbers. I didn't hesitate and gave her my contact info and vise versa.
I found out it was nicer to spend the time talking to someone interesting than staying in a corner solving puzzles and listening to music I've heard countless times. Yesterday, Siony took her daughter to school as usual but she told me that she was going to the bank afterwards. She will just go back to school to pick up Colenn after class. I think it was nice of her to inform me but it was extra nice of her to bring magazines for me, thinking I might get bored while waiting. She brought a couple of interesting magazines for me to read while she went to the bank. As I was flipping through the pages, I told myself, Siony is very kind and thoughtful.
Today, she brought two individually wrapped banana cake slices ... one for me and one for her. She even bought me a cold drink to go with it. I think I'm blessed to meet a new friend.

Yohan Met the Robinsons
If you think your family's different, wait 'til you meet the family of the future. - quote from Meet the Robinsons

Ocean on a Sunday
Jules and I watched Ocean's Thirteen at Glorietta last Sunday. I was not excited about the movie because the sequel (Ocean's Twelve) didn't live up to my expectations but Jules insisted we watch it. I'm glad we did because Ocean's Thirteen definitely outshines the second one. Don't worry, there are no spoilers here.
I found the movie fun and entertaining. I enjoyed the witty and hilarious exchanges, however, my favorite is still Ocean's Eleven. How about you, what's your favorite heist?

Transitions
I just want to thank everyone who left kind and encouraging thoughts regarding Yohan's first day in class. I'm so happy that he is doing better and seems to be adjusting well to his new teachers and classmates.
I'm so happy because I received favorable remarks about Yohan from his two teachers. They said Yohan is doing well in class. I found out that Yohan is fond of story telling time where the teacher reads a new book each day. The teacher said, Yohan even acted out the part of the book where a dinosaur was sick and being checked by the doctor. The teachers were very amuzed and enjoyed the little entertainment.
Let me share Yohan's first art work in school. The teacher gave each student a personalized coloring paper with a picture of a boy and a girl. The teacher told the students to color the picture pertaining to their gender. Here is Yohan's work (there was a girl beside this drawing but Yohan left it bare.) Simple things such as listening to instructions is a vital part of every nursery program.
Yohan seems to be enjoying his classes and hope that he will continue doing so. Jules and I attended the Parent's Orientation last Friday and we are pleased to hear about the promising mission of the school.

Yehey! The weekend is here. I've been absent from blogging for a few days and it's good to be back. Thank you for all your encouraging words regarding Yohan's first day in school. The succeeding days were better and I'll post more about it soon. Sorry haven't done my usual visits but I promise to make it up this weekend.
First, let me post my entry for this week's photo hunt - shoes.
My husband and I have accumulated several shoes, sandals and slippers for our son Yohan over the years. Children seem to outgrow their shoes in a span of few months. They grow up really fast. We have given away some of his old ones and kept a few.
Here are most of the shoes and slippers that he currently uses.

A Slight Change?
Perhaps ...
Strangers In The Eyes of a Boy
Yohan is three turning four years old. It's the right time for him to start formal pre-school. As much as I'd like to enroll him in The Little Gym's Terrific Tots program, the distance combined with the current traffic situation made us rule out this school. We have found a relatively good school nearer our area, The Nazareth School.
Today was Yohan's first day in nursery in a new school. We had to wake him up very early in the morning to get ready. As expected he was cranky and insisted that he wanted to continue sleeping. As he looked at the window, it was still dark. He was probably confused and told me that it was still night time so we should all go back to bed. Jules and I explained that it was early morning and the sun was just about to rise that's why it was still dark. Yohan didn't like the idea of getting up early to eat breakfast and get dressed for school.
Another new thing - the service. Yohan is used to riding our car going to school. I explained before hand that someone else was going to pick us up (me and Yohan). He was quite upset to see a strange van, strange driver and new faces of children already inside the service. He clung to me tightly most of the ride and kept whispering that he wanted to go home.
He was in a better mood when we arrived in school. The teachers were very nice to him and he was glad that I could go with him inside his classroom. Parents are allowed inside for two days or so.
Yohan was happy to get this sun stamp from his teacher. I apply the same concept at home. I have different kinds of stamps and stickers as rewards for a good job well done (e.g. returning his toys in the cabinet, doing art works, finishing his meal, taking a nap, etc.). Amazing how small things such as stamps and stickers mean so much to a child.
Tomorrow is another school day. I hope Yohan will be more open to the idea of waking up early and riding the service. I also hope that tomorrow, he will let me stay outside the classroom to wait for him.

Here are some of my vacation photos taken last year in Boracay (a famous beach in the Philippines best known for its talcum white sand and crystal clear waters.) The first two photos show me and my friend getting henna tattoos. I chose a butterfly while my two other friends both opted for dragons. I think every henna tattoo is a nice work of art. My friends and I had fun posing for the last picture where we proudly showed our henna tattoos. You can also see the beautiful sandcastle behind me. It took a few men several long hours to put up this sandcastle art. Remarkable isn't it?
