We greeted the 1st day of August by taking the whole household to the cinema. Jules, Yohan and I watched a well awaited movie - The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor while I treated our helpers to a movie of their choice - A Very Special Love (a Pinoy comedy-romance).
The Mummy is a PG-13 movie. We contemplated first before letting Yohan watch it with us. Yohan really showed great interest in the movie so I showed him some movie clips I found online. The movie clips showed most of the scary parts. After seeing the trailers he still insisted on watching it so we brought him along. I think letting him watch the video clips helped because he didn't get frightened during the scary scenes. I was taken aback by some strong language in the movie but I'm glad the words did not register on Yohan's young mind.
I'm a fan of the first two movies: The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. I really enjoyed both movies but my favorite is The Mummy Returns. I love the combination of adventure and funny antics. One of my favorite scenes in that movie was the climatic fight scene between Anck-su-Numam (played by Patricia Velasquez) and Evelyn O'Connell (played byRachel Weisz).
I was very excited about watching The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor because of Jet Li. He is one of my favorite actors and I have watched many of his movies. Honestly, I have a little crush on him. Shhhh! :)
(This is my personal opinion) The movie wasn't as good as I expected it to be. It's hard to explain but the characters seemed to lack the charm and chemistry they strongly had in the past. The dialogue wasn't as entertaining as before. I think the one-liner attempts for comedy weren't that successful. The parts that were supposed to be funny didn't really make me nor my husband laugh.
Comparing the story to a tapestry, I would say it wasn't properly stitched as should be. The movie had some loose ends that left questions to the minds of the viewers. I also miss the presence of Rachel Weiz as Evelyn O'Connell. There were earlier talks hinting Rachel Weiz dropped the movie because she didn't like the script.
If you're a follower of The Mummy, I think that the movie is still worth watching at the cinema. A good scene was the exciting chase in a truck filled with fireworks. The fight scene between Zi Juan (Michelle Yeoh) and Jet Li (Emperor Han) seemed so promising but sadly it was too short. I wanted to see more intense scenes between the two.
Have you seen the movie? If yes, what did you think about it?
