If for some reason I hear a rumor about a friend, I make it a point not to jump into conclusions. If it's something negative, I would rather ask my friend directly rather than listen to hearsays. If it's a sensitive matter, I would choose to keep quiet as a sign of respect to my friend. I do not like to be the center of talks. Rumors or gossips have the power to destroy friendships so it's something I would like to stir clear of.
